Los Angeles, CA - (FirearmsGuide.com) – The Fenix TK20R V2.0 is a 3000 Lumens ultra-bright, heavy-duty tactical rechargeable flashlight that can go for hours without getting tired. For more info please read the article or buy it here: https://www.fenix-store.com/fenix-tk20r-v2-0-rechargeable-flashlight/

A year ago, I was testing the Fenix TK16 dual-switch tactical flashlight with 3100 Lumens. I simply adore that flashlight because it is a perfect balance of power (3000 Lumens) and size and weight. I use the TK16 all the time and it is one of my two flashlights. Yes, I narrow daily use down to only two flashlights, both Fenix: TK16 and LD30. LD30 is a small devil and TK16 is a bigger brother. What this test has to conclude is how TK20R V2.0 fits into this “holy grail” of a flashlights.

The new Fenix TK20R V2.0 is an upgrade from the previous best-selling TK20R that is commonly used by law enforcement and military personnel. I never used TK20R so I cannot say anything about it but I use Fenix TK16 on daily basis and I consider myself an expert on superb TK16 flashlights. The Fenix TK20R V2.0 is almost identical to the TK16, with some improvements. They share almost the same size, design, and features. So, what are the improvements? Let’s see.

The Fenix TK20R V2.0 is slightly longer and heavier than the TK16.  The Fenix TK20R V2.0 is 0.42 inches longer and 0.69 Oz heavier. The difference is very, very small and it is easy not to notice it at all. I doubt that you can notice this small difference when you carry the TK20R V2.0 in your pocket, your backpack, and even in the holster. On the other side, you will be rewarded for that extra size and weight. You will get some great features that greatly enhance the use of the TK20R V2.0 in everyday use scenarios.

Notice that when collar is unscrewed how you can see battery status LED on one side and you can plug in USB-C cable into the charging port to charge the battery

The biggest improvement of the TK20R V2.0: The protected USB-C Charging Port

The TK20R V2.0 has a USB-C Charging Port located just beneath the head of the light. That is a great feature because now you can charge the TK20R V2.0 on the go in every possible situation without taking it apart and taking the battery out. With many other flashlights, you have to take the 21700 battery out and then charge it in the charger big enough for the 21700 battery. Maybe that is easy in your home or office but in many outdoor situations or when you are traveling this can be tricky. With the TK20R V2.0, you don’t have to worry about that. You just plug in provided USB-C charging cable directly into the TK20R V2.0 and you can charge it directly from your cell phone charger, car charger while driving, or from the battery pack. No need to carry around a 21700 battery charger all the time.

When you go from one job to another, just plug it in your car USB charger and it will be full again when you arrive. No need to take the battery out and then maybe lose some parts due to a bumpy road. And in the case of an emergency, you just grab it and turn it on. No need to assemble it first. If you have several 21700 batteries with you, the TK20R V2.0 can be used as a charging cradle. Just recharge one battery, swap it with an empty one and start charging the new battery. This feature is extremely effective and it will save your butt more than once.

Battery Status LED Indicator:

On the opposite side of the USB-C charging port, you will see the battery status indicator LED that shines red while charging and turns green when the 21700 battery is full. It will also light up for 3 seconds whenever you turn on the flashlight so you can gauge the status of the battery.

Green light: battery level between 85 – 100% (good)

Flashing green light: battery level between 50% – 85% (sufficient)

Red light: battery level between 25% – 50% (poor)

Flashing red light: battery level between 0% – 25% (critical)

This is a very convenient feature and we like to keep it simple.

You can think that open USB-C charging port on the flashlight is not a good idea because it opens the body of the flashlight to the water and other elements. You are right but Fenix is one step ahead of you. The Fenix designed the best charging port cover in the history of flashlights. The TK20R V2.0 has a threaded collar that can be unscrewed to expose the USB-C charging port and then screwed back in to seal it. To fully screw and unscrew the collar you have to turn it only 360 degrees. After charging, tightening the collar back to the head with 360 degrees turn creates a waterproof and dustproof seal, ensuring the longevity of the charging port. Collars seals USB-C charging port so well that the TK20R V2.0 has an IP68 waterproof and inner waterproof rating, just like any other flashlight. We tested this collar many times in our test and we conclude that it really seals both the USB-C charging port and the battery status indicator LED on the opposite side very well and because of the short 360-degree turn it is simple to use and fast as well. Great solution that adds tons of value to the TK20R V2.0.

And now let’s quickly run through other great features of the TK20R V2.0.

The TK20R V2.0 uses ARB-L21-5000 V2 5000mAh Rechargeable 21700 Li-Ion battery (provided in the package). I love 18650 batteries, but I have to admit that 21700 with 5000 mAh is awesome too. Bigger and heavier than the 18650, you can see that 21700 means two things: capacity and power. And those are good things. The TK20R V2.0 has USB-C charging port built-in so you don’t have to buy more expensive 21700 batteries with USB-C charging port. You can buy and use regular, cheaper 21700 batteries with no charging port and charge them through TK20R V2.0 once they are inserted in. The battery compartment of the TK20R V2.0 is designed with a double spring structure to keep the battery suspended, effectively negating external impact which helps avoid momentary power failures.

We already mentioned that production quality is superb but it is good to know that the Fenix TK20R V2.0 has impact resistance up to 4.9 ft. Drop it on the asphalt and it will still work.

Battery status LED will tell you status of battery charge every time you turn flashlight on

The TK20R V2.0 uses the Luminus SFT70 LED with a lifespan of 50,000 that generates 3000 Lumens max output. Other great features are the five output selections (plus strobe) and a long beam distance of 1558 ft. The choice of 30, 150, 300, 1000, or 3000 Lumens worked for me in every situation and I was able to quickly and easily go through them every time. The TK20R V2.0 has a dual tail switch. To turn the TK20R V2.0 momentary-on just tap the big switch. To turn the TK20R V2.0 constant-on just click the big switch. Then you can tap the small switch and run through 5 light modes. When TK20R V2.0 is off, you can tap the small switch and get an instant strobe mode. The strobe is powerful (3000 lumens) and light changes frequency constantly in strobe mode. That’s a fast, effective and convenient feature when you need to use a flashlight to let someone know your position or to alert someone in any situation.  The dual switch is a great thing. With a 5000 mAh 21700 battery you can run the TK20R V2.0 for 2.8 hours in 3000 Lumens Turbo mode or for 48 hours in the eco mode….and that is a very long time.

Design-wise I like the balance of the size and power of the Fenix TK20R V2.0. 3000 lumens in the body that is not too small and not too big. Just a perfect size for serious everyday professional use. You can carry it in the provided holster but also your pocket. It will never be too big or not powerful enough. The design of the strike bezel is less aggressive than on the TK16 and that is a nice thing. This one is still tactical but it looks more “civilized”. More for everyday civilian use.

Firearms Guide Test Conclusion:

The Fenix TK20R V2.0 is a simply fantastic flashlight. Top build quality, top light output, and top tech & design features. And all of that in a compact and light package. If you think like me to narrow down your choice of flashlights for everyday use or if you planning to buy just one flashlight that can reliably serve you in 95% of situations then get the Fenix TK20R V2.0. Our opinion is that you simply cannot go wrong with it. The Fenix TK20R V2.0 is also perfect Fathers Day gift that he will use every day.
