Streamlight Super Tac Kit that we tested includes vertical grip and low profile mount. Even though Super TAC looks like a regular flashlight, it is infrared, so you not going to see its light so easily with the naked eye. It will have just a red glow. And looking into this flashlight with the naked eye is not a good idea. You may temporarily reduce your eyesight. 1. Production quality: The Streamlight Super TAC IR Tactical Flashlight / Illuminator is built from durable, anodized machined aluminum with a premium anti-abrasive finish. It is 6.6" long for a comfortable feel in hand, with a barrel groove for grip. The body construction is IPX7 rated design (can be submerged up to 1 meter in water for 30 minutes); all openings are o-ring sealed to resist moisture so when you take it into the hunt, it will survive any weather. It is built for Law Enforcement, Tactical Operations and the Military so no doubt that it survives coyote night hunts.
2. IR Light output: The Streamlight Super TAC IR Tactical Flashlight / Illuminator uses a C4 High Power IR LED, 850 nm, impervious to shock with a 20,000-hour lifetime. With two provided CR123A lithium batteries and optimized electronics, it provides regulated intensity of 150 lumens and 30,000 Candelas of 850 nm IR light for 3.5 hours. We did not use the light continuously, but we have used it intermittently for an entire night of hunting, and we have not changed the battery yet. A deep-dish parabolic reflector produces a long-range targeting beam with optimum peripheral illumination to aid in navigation. That feature alone helps a lot when looking for long-distance prey.
3. Ease of use: The Super TAC IR is simple and effective to use. The tail cap push button provides one-handed momentary or constant “on”. It also operates with remote switches and that feature will be popular with many hunters. With a weight of only 7.1 oz (200 grams), it won’t add much to the total weight of your night-hunting configuration. Our Super Tac Kit that we tested came in the box with a very convenient vertical grip and low profile mount. Low profile mount is a must-have for the hunters who want to fix Super TAC to their gun and use it only as weapon mounted light source.

Effectiveness: The Streamlight Super TAC IR Tactical Flashlight / Illuminator is simply super effective as an additional source of IR illumination for night vision IR scopes or even as the only source of IR light. We tested it with ATN X-SIGHT 4K PRO 5-20X and we were super satisfied with improvements in night vision mid-range (up to 100 yards) and long-range (from 100 - 225 yards). That is a great distance for coyote or hog night hunting. But even if you have a cheap Sony camcorder with NightShot you will see the illumination from this light. YouTube is full of rat shooting videos where shooters use Sony camcorders as night vision scopes and recording devices at the same time. With Super TAC that “homemade” night hunting configuration will provide a great night picture. The IR light has a nice narrow central beam surrounded by a huge, fairly sharp spill area about 6-10 feet in diameter at 100 yards, which allows for pointing the light away from the target and still getting illumination without being overly intense. There is enough spill to see plenty well at a closer distance when shining the beam farther out.
Conclusion: The Streamlight Super TAC is fantastic Infrared LED Tactical Flashlight for Long Range Targeting that provides a solid concentrated beam with sharp peripheral drop-off to 300yds very well. We have been able to see good detail past 300 yards with no magnification. It is weapon mountable with a push button tail cap and momentary switch capable, and it can be used with a remote switch. As a great plus, we would state a very competitive retail price that is one-third of the price of its main competitors like Surefire Vampire light.
